What is Silent Counselling®?

Silent Counselling® is a non-invasive, rapid energy release technique which makes use of acupressure meridians and simple breathwork. It is designed to enable you to release negative emotions that influence your life without it being necessary for you to talk about or relive past events. This is especially useful when you don’t remember an incident or the root cause of your discomfort.

It is said to work by tapping into the body's innate ability to heal itself, and by using your body’s energy system, rather than your retelling of painful events, to identify and diffuse the negative emotions that may be influencing your life. The goal is to empower you to move forwards, unburdened by the emotional experiences of the past, allowing you to live more fully in the present.

Silent Counselling® is intended to regulate the nervous system, shift energy, and remove the triggered negative emotions that cause distress.

Memories of past incidents may be unreliable or incomplete, so Silent Counselling® uses the energy in your body to find the answers and get to the root cause.  The intention is to release blocked energy and restore flow using your own gentle touch and simple breathing techniques with the aim of freeing you from emotional pain and the physical pain associated with it.

Silent Counselling® is designed to be used in the following instances:

  • to release unhelpful habits and cravings

  • to bolster self-esteem and confidence

  • to shift negative beliefs

  • to release feelings of shame, guilt, resentment, inability to let go

  • to decrease or eliminate rumination or persistent negative thinking 

  • to release blocks

  • to release stress, anxiety, fears, phobias, low mood, OCD, insomnia, and the like

  • to gain clarity to take action

  • to improve skin and gut issues

  • to release imposter syndrome, «stuckness», procrastination, and self-sabotage

  • to alleviate heartbreak, regret, bitterness, hurt, negative self-judgment

  • and more!

Ideally, it should be possible to remember an event without negative emotional charge.

That way, you may feel calmer, lighter, more free, and unburdened by habits that have been weighing you down or holding you back. This can empower you to move past what is not serving you and create changes which support reaching your true potential and living the life you desire from a place of peace, love, and safety.

What is a Silent Counselling® session like?

At the beginning of a session, you will choose a topic for the session, e.g. an event, a challenge, a physical or emotional pain. It is your choice as to whether or not you prefer to talk about the topic, but talking about it is not necessary. It’s enough that you are able to think about it.

A Silent Counselling® session will normally last around 90 minutes.

During the session, we will identify the meridian points that are activated while you focus on your topic of choice. Once these locations are identified, you will be guided through a process which is designed to release stagnated energy and restore flow and balance. The process will include a specific combination of gentle touch and simple breathwork designed to alleviate dysfunction and dis-ease in your physical, mental, emotional or spiritual systems. Tapping may also be used.

As you will be guided through this process, no previous experience is required.

You are responsible for your commitment and motivation to make changes in your life, and to do the work that is required.

During and after the session, you may experience a healing reaction. For example, you may feel emotional or out of sorts as your body and nervous system become accustomed to changes that may have taken place during the session. You may feel very tired for a few days, have a mild headache, difficulty sleeping or dream more than usual.

How did Silent Counselling® come about?

A young woman entered the clinic of energy psychologists Marjorie and John Cooper in Dundee, Scotland. Severely traumatized from years of abuse starting at a very young age, she was unable to communicate other than by making odd vocal utterances and stammering. Determined to help her, the Coopers developed Silent Counselling®, an approach they incorporated into their practice in order to help even more of their clients.
